MCC Becomes First Community College in Nation to Offer AFCPE Approved Program
Metropolitan Community College in Omaha is the first community college approved by the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education as a registered education program.
MCC recently joined four-year schools across the nation in offering a pathway to AFCPE’s Accredited Financial Counselor certification. The school’s financial counseling program can be completed entirely online and is the latest addition to the MCC Applied Finances Institute, which also includes programs for financial planning, real estate and insurance.
“Given the financial challenges so many households are facing today, this is an important program addition for MCC students and stakeholders,” said Lori Lothringer, MCC’s dean of business.
Graduates of the program will be able to assist clients in overcoming debt, correcting money management behaviors and develop strategies to achieve financial goals.
“MCC is the first community college that is approved to provide this curriculum and the only educational institution in the country to provide credit to online students,” said Ashley Peters, MCC’s financial planning program director. “People who are passionate about helping others now have an affordable program they can access from anywhere.”
