JoAnn Martin, CEO of Ameritas Mutual Holding Co., will be recognized as the Nebraskan of the Year by the Lincoln Rotary Club No. 14 later this month.

The award will be presented at a luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 29, starting at noon at the Lincoln Embassy Suites, 1040 P St.

Martin is a native of Plainview and holds degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Colorado State University, as well as Certified Public Accountant and Fellow Life Management Institute professional credentials, according to a news release.

Martin joined Ameritas in 1984 as an audit division manager. She received the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce’s Burnham Yates Citizenship Award and was named the 2018 Woman of the Year by the Lincoln Journal Star. She was inducted into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame in 2015 and the UNL School of Accountancy Hall of Fame in 2004. She also was named a Nebraska Alumni Association Master in 2014.

“She’s been recognized by the Nebraska Society of CPAs and the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development for her leadership and commitment to community service,” the Rotary Club said in a release.

Martin is wrapping up service as board chair for the American Council of Life Insurers and the University of Nebraska Foundation. Additionally, she is a National Research Corp. board member and an honorary trustee of the MDRT Foundation

Previous winners of the Nebraskan of the Year Award include Husker coach John Cook, businessman Tony Messineo, philanthropist and business leader Duane Acklie, businesswoman Alice Dittman, former U.S. Congressman and UNL athletic director Tom Osborne, environmentalist and community leader Susan Seacrest, U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, civil rights leader Leola Bullock and former Nebraska Gov. Charles Thone.

The Rotary No. 14 Nebraskan of the Year award was established to honor and recognize the accomplishments of a Nebraskan who has been distinguished through service to others in keeping with ideals of Rotary International.
