The Kiwanis Club of Omaha celebrated its centennial year by presenting the City of Omaha with a $25,000 donation toward improvements at Miller Park.
The donation will bring a Sutu Soccer Wall to the 80-acre park at 2707 Redrick Ave. The wall features 16 smart panels that measure and react to impact, and it uses lights and sound to provide feedback. It can be used both as a recreation device and as part of a soccer training program.
“Kids in the community need a safe place to play,” Christopher Tooker, the club’s immediate past president, said in a release.
John Wehrle, the club’s current president, said the donation is an example of how Kiwanis can help children in need. The club hopes to raise more money for additional pieces to add to the project.
“With budget restrictions in schools and municipalities, extra play equipment is often unavailable,” Wehrle said in a release. “We think this project is one way to show children in our community that we want them to grow up happy, healthy, safe and loved.”
The Kiwanis Club of Omaha meets Fridays at noon at the Scott Conference Center. For more, go to facebook.com/KiwanisOmaha.
