Juneteenth Might Be Court Holiday — If Lawmakers Want
Will Juneteenth be a court holiday in Nebraska? That’s not certain right now.
The Daily Record asked the Office of the State Court Administrator if Juneteenth will be observed as a nonjudicial day in 2022. (The June 19 holiday likely would be observed on Monday, June 20, 2022.)
“In response to whether Nebraska courts and court offices will be closed on Juneteenth 2022, the Judicial Branch follows Neb. Rev. Stat. 25-2221 which provides when courts and their offices may be closed,” the office said in a statement.
Lawmakers will be able to add Juneteenth to the list of state holidays in the upcoming session, resolving the question. But if not, or if action comes too close to the summer, Juneteenth could remain a judicial day for the purpose of court filings.
