SECTION I - Opening Procedures
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by the publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this meeting was published in the public notices section of the January 31, 2025 edition of The Daily Record and on their website as well as on the district website. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and the subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the Agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.
1.1 Call Meeting to Order - Kyle Janssen called the meeting to order.
1.2 Roll Call - Board members present were: Kyle Janssen, Mark Hauptman, Dawn Stock, Greg Beach and Blake Turpen. Board member with excused absence were: Rick Hollendieck. Others present were: Travis Lightle, Andrew Rinaldi, Russ Olsen, Mike Sortino, Shawn Hoppes, Andy Boone, Molly Hornbeck, Pat Phelan, Caroline Foresman, Stacey Deterding, Matt Bruggeman, Todd Mueller, Chad Jepsen and guests.
1.3 Pledge of Allegiance - The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
1.4 Approval of Minutes - Motion by Blake Turpen, seconded by Mark Hauptman, to approve the minutes of January 27, 2025. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
1.5 Recognition of Visitors - Lindsay Stubbee, Amanda Pflueger and Alexandria Ashley spoke regarding food allergy policies.
SECTION II - Matters Requiring Board Action
2.1 Approval of Bills (SP 2) - Motion by Dawn Stock, seconded by Blake Turpen to approve the total General Fund bills equal $900,640.76 and the Construction Fund bills for the 2020 School Bond total $1,814,443.25. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Beach, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
2.2 Approval of Financial Report (SP 2) - Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Mark Hauptman to approve the financial report. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; and Rick Hollendieck, absent.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
2.3 Approval of Resignations and Contracts (SP 4) - Motion by Dawn Stock, seconded by Mark Hauptman to approve the resignations as stated effective at the end of the school year. A roll call vote was taken - Mark Hauptman, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; Blake Turpen, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Blake Turpen to approve the contracts as stated. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Greg Beach, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
2.4 Set Dates for Budget Presentation (SP 2) - Motion by Blake Turpen, seconded by Greg Beach to approve the budget presentations for March 24, April 28, May 27 and June 23. A roll call vote was taken - Greg Beach, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Blake Turpen, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; and Kyle Janssen, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
2.5 Final Approval of Calendar for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 School Year (SP 1) - Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Blake Turpen to approve the 2025-2026 and the 2026-2027 school calendars. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
2.6 Approval of Policy 3132 - Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Greg Beach to approve changes to Policy 3132. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, absent; Blake Turpen, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; and Mark Hauptman, yes.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
SECTION III – Reports
3.1 Report on Schematic Design for the Gretna High School Track Project - Lana from DLR, presented the plans for the GHS track renovation.
3.2 Legislative Report - Burke Harr presented an update on the current legislative bills.
3.3 Financial Literacy in Schools - As required by state guidelines, the Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Team presented the district’s annual financial literacy report, highlighting student progress, curriculum implementation, and key measures from the past school year.
3.4 Secondary Midterm Report - The secondary building principals presented an update on activities and events in their buildings, including a mid-term graduation report from the high school. The middle schools also unveiled their new branding guides.
3.5 Executive Session to Protect Public Interest Regarding Personnel - Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Blake Turpen to enter into executive session to prevent the needless injury to the reputation of an individual and because closed session is clearly necessary for the protection of the public interest. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; Mark Hauptman, absent; and Blake Turpen, absent.
Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

NOTICE OF REGULAR BOARD MEETING
The Board of Education of the Gretna Public Schools, Gretna, Nebraska, will hold a regular meeting on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Gretna Public Schools - Administration Building located at 11717 South 216th Street, Gretna, Nebraska, in the Board of Education Meeting Room. An agenda for the meeting, which shall be kept continually current, is readily available for public inspection on our website and at the Superintendent’s office during normal business hours.
