NOTICE OF SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

 

The Board of Education of the Gretna Public Schools, Gretna, Nebraska, will hold a special meeting on December 18, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at the Gretna Public Schools - Administration Building located at 11717 South 216th Street, Gretna, Nebraska, in the Board of Education Meeting Room. An agenda for the meeting, which shall be kept continually current, is readily available for public inspection at the Superintendent’s office during normal business hours.

SECTION I - Opening Procedures

Notice of the meeting was given in advance by the publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this meeting was published in the public notices section of the November 30, 2023 edition of The Daily Record and on their website as well as on the district website. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and the subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the Agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

 

1.1 Call Meeting to Order - Rick Hollendieck

called the meeting to order.

 

1.2 Roll Call - Board members present were:

Greg Beach, Rick Hollendieck, Kyle Janssen, Dawn Stock, and Mark Hauptman. Board members absent were: Blake Turpen. Others present were: Travis Lightle, Rex Anderson, Andrew Rinaldi, Russ Olsen, Shawn Hoppes, Mike Sortino, Pat Phelan, Caroline Foresman, Chanell Willmer, Todd Mueller, Chad Jepsen, Andy Boone, Shawn Hoppes and guests.

 

1.3 Pledge of Allegiance - The board recited the

pledge of allegiance.

 

1.4 Approval of Minutes - Motion by Kyle

Janssen, seconded by Greg Beach, to approve the minutes of November 27, 2023. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

1.5 Recognition of Visitors - Olivia Brown,

Kailyn Nakai, Lisa Zwiebel, Jessica Hatch, and Teresa Perlebach requested no change to the High School High Ability Learner Program.

 

SECTION II - Matters Requiring Board Action

2.1 Approval of Bills - Motion by Kyle Janssen,

seconded by Greg Beach to approve the General Fund bills totaling $895,428.41, Construction Fund bills for the 2018 Bond totaling $321,287.90 and the 2020 Bond total of $3,220,312.82. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.2 Approval of Financial Report - Motion by

Kyle Janssen, seconded by Greg Beach, to approve the financial report as presented. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; and Rick Hollendieck, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.3 Approval of Resignations and Contracts –

Motion by Dawn Stock, seconded by Kyle Janssen to approve the contract for Jake Runyon as the elementary principal at Cedar Hollow Elementary. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Dawn Stock, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Dawn Stock to approve the contract for Riley Gross as the principal at Middle School #3. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; and Dawn Stock, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

Motion by Dawn Stock, seconded by Mark Hauptman to approve the resignation of Paula Burns. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Blake Turpen, absent, Kyle Janssen, yes; and Rick Hollendieck, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1

 

Motion by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Greg Beach to approve the resignation of Sadie Rahn. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Blake Turpen, absent, Mark Hauptman, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; and Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1

 

Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Dawn Stock to approve the contracts for Jennifer Smith, and Kamryn Willman. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, absent; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, absent; and Mark Hauptman, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Kyle Janssen to approve the addendum for Business Manager, Chanell Willmer. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Mark Hauptman, yes; Rick Hollendieck, absent; and Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.4 Consider Approval of Additional Certificated

Staff for 2024-2025 School Year - Motion by Mark Hauptman, seconded by Greg Beach to approve 40 FTE new positions for the 2024-2025 school year. A roll call vote was taken - Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; and Dawn Stock, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.5 Consider Approval of Out-of-State Trip

Request - Motion by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Dawn Stock to approve the out-of-state field trip for the GHS Journalism to go to Kansas City, Missouri. A roll call vote was taken - Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; and Mark Hauptman, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.6 Consider Final Approval of 2024-25 High

School Curriculum Handbook - Motion by Greg Beach, seconded by Kyle Janssen for final approval of the 2024-2025 High School Curriculum Handbook. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Bach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.7 Consider Approval of Central Office Staff

Evaluation Instrument - Motion by Dawn Stock, seconded by Kyle Janssen to approve the central office staff evaluation instrument. A roll call vote was taken - Mark Hauptman, yes; Kyle Janssen, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Rick Hollendick, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; and Dawn Stock, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

2.8 Consider Date for Board Retreat - Motion

by Kyle Janssen, seconded by Greg Beach to approve the set of the board retreat for January 20, 2024. A roll call vote was taken - Dawn Stock, yes; Greg Beach, yes; Mark Hauptman, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Kyle Janssen, yes; and Rick Hollendick, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.

 

SECTION III – Reports

3.1 Policy Review Report (4160-4190) - This is

the last of four reviews for 4000 Personnel.

 

3.2 Report on Technology - Erica Walsh and

Trina Popple presented a report on the 1-to-1 instruction occurring at the middle and high schools.

 

3.3 Report on High School Accountability

Supports - Todd Mueller and Chad Jepsen reported on the support system in place to help with the accountability policies.

 

3.4 Report on Construction - Mike Kros reported

on construction.

 

SECTION IV - Announcements and Dates

4.1 Set Next Board Meeting Date - The next

special school board meeting will be held on Monday, December 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administrative Offices.

 

4.2 Adjournment - Motion by Mark Hauptman,

seconded by Dawn Stock, to adjourn the meeting. A roll call vote was taken - Kyle Janssen, yes; Rick Hollendieck, yes; Blake Turpen, absent; Mark Hauptman, yes; Dawn Stock, yes; and Greg Beach, yes. Motion carried. Yeas 5; Nays 0; Absent 1.
