Former Nebraska Attorney Disbarred for Role in Marriage Fraud Scheme
The Nebraska Supreme Court disbarred Bilal Ahmed Khaleeq last Friday and accepted his voluntary surrender of his law license.
While practicing in Texas, Khaleeq was prosecuted for participating in a marriage fraud scheme. He was sentenced to six months in federal prison for his role in facilitating an unlawful marriage to assist a Pakistani national in obtaining a green card.
Khaleeq also faced disbarment in Texas. A U.S. Immigrations & Customs Enforcement news release said the Khaleeq helped prepare for an immigration interview in April 2016 and required documentary evidence to make the marriage appear legitimate.
The Nebraska Supreme Court said he did not challenge the truth of the allegations against him, and he consented to an order of disbarment in the state. The court found he violated his oath of office as an attorney in Nebraska.
Khaleeq was admitted to legal practice in Nebraska in 2007 after graduating from the Creighton University School of Law in 2006. According to the Texas State Bar, Khaleeq was licensed to practice law in the state in 2014 and worked out of a private office in Dallas. His website, available at boldlegal.com, said he “helped thousands of families settle successfully in the United States.”
