Fareway is opening a new location along Highway 6 in Gretna, marking a significant business investment in one of the fastest growing cities in the fastest growing county in Nebraska.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held last Tuesday at 604 S. Highway 6 for what will become a roughly 21,000-square-foot grocery store, which is expected to be completed in spring 2022.

“We are excited to serve the area residents of Gretna locally and want to thank the city and developer for making this project possible,” Fareway President and CEO Reynolds W. Cramer said in a news release. “Residents may be familiar with our stores and the exceptional customer service experience, but we look forward to providing great service in Gretna and becoming an integral part community.”

Gretna Mayor Mike Evans said the community was thankful to welcome Fareway. Gretna Area Chamber of Commerce President Doug Ortlieb also offered praise for the company.

“As one of the fastest growing cities in Nebraska, we are excited to have a top 10 employer opening locally,” Ortlieb said in a statement. “We know that Fareway will be an asset to both our business district and our community as a whole, and we are pleased to welcome them to Gretna!”
