Douglas County Jail Reports Death After Inmate Discovered Unresponsive in Cell
A 23-year-old inmate of the Douglas County Jail died after being found unresponsive in his cell on Saturday evening.
Lifesaving care was immediately initiated by Department of Corrections staff and continued by Omaha Fire Department personnel, according to a news release. The man – identified as Daniel Walton – was transported to the Nebraska Medical Center, where emergency care continued. But he did not survive.
Walton had been booked into corrections earlier Saturday.
“We'd like to express our sincere condolences to Daniel’s family and loved ones,” said Mike Myers, director of the Department of Corrections.
A grand jury investigation of the death will be conducted.
