The U.S. Department of Justice announced it has made $850 million available to public safety agencies responding to the challenges posed by COVID-19 outbreak.

 The Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding program, authorized by the recent stimulus legislation, allows eligible state, local, and tribal governments to apply immediately for critical funding.

“This is an unprecedented moment in our nation’s history and an especially dangerous one for our front-line law enforcement officers, corrections officials, and public safety professionals,” Katharine T. Sullivan, principal deputy assistant attorney general, Office of Justice Programs, said in a news release.

The eligible allocation for the Douglas County is $56,304, and Sarpy County is allocated $58,008.

Omaha is allocated $1,151,084, while Bellevue  has $35,857. In total, Nebraska has about $2.1 million in supplemental funding.
