What are your connections to the community?
I was born and raised in North Omaha off of 25th and Ida with my mother, Shenelle hall, and my sister, Lyric Johnson. I own three video game store locations and one of the three locations are based in North Omaha off of 50th and Ames.
What experience do you bring to the office?
The experience that I would bring to the Omaha City Council seat of district 2 will be business ownership skills, economic science and community relations.
What would one of your top priorities be?
My top priority for North Omaha is our local economic situation. North Omaha needs reliable and livable wage paying labor based jobs. As a North Omaha native, I know and understand what it's like to not be able to walk to a job within the same neighborhood you reside in. In west Omaha you can walk to work and make $18 an hour at a job down the road. That is not the case in North Omaha. As a city councilman of Omaha I will ensure that new jobs and businesses are constructed in North Omaha and that these jobs will employ North Omaha residents at a livable wage in North Omaha. This will help stimulate and grow our local economy and help fight against the ethnic cleansing taking place in our community known as gentrification.
What motivated you to run for public office?
My motivation to run for public office stims from not seeing any change or growth in North Omaha. The economic and physical conditions of North Omaha have gotten worse over the years. After seeing the ethnic cleansing known as gentrification start to take place under our current leadership I decided to run for office.
What’s the biggest issue that Omaha faces?
The biggest issues that North Omaha faces is
• Miseducation
• Mass Incarceration of African Americans
• Gentrification
• Access To Wealth From Banks
• Police reform
Is there anything else you want to tell voters?
I am 28 years old with a wife, Jessica Mitchell and two small children, David Mitchell III (Age 3) and Exton Mitchell (Age 2). I believe and strong family values and community values for North Omaha. It's time to rebuild and it's time for a change!
