What are your connections to the community?
Omaha is my chosen home. I have lived here since 2015, and since that time I have become a licensed realtor. I am a member of both the Douglas County Republican Party’s Central Committee and Nebraskans Against Government Overreach. Prior to the changes that accompanied COVID, I was a member of Mothers of Preschoolers International.
What experience do you bring to the office?
I am just like everyone else in the community. I am no more qualified than any of the voters. I understand what it means for the average family when our government shuts down schools and businesses. I know what it is like to deal with the new garbage contract. I understand how the decisions of city council profoundly affects the day to day lives of ordinary citizens. I believe that our governing body should represent these people.
What would one of your top priorities be?
When elected, I intend to promote small business recovery. We must open the lines of communication, industry by industry, to identify where specific needs lie. Because of the varied types of businesses that serve our community, a “one size fits all” approach would be largely ineffective. As many small businesses in Omaha are Mom & Pop restaurants, permanently eliminating the restaurant tax, and keeping that money inhouse would be such a benefit to their bottom line. I would also work to develop an ordinance which offers a preference in awarding contracts to local companies and contractors for city contracts and projects that are subsidized with tax dollars.
What motivated you to run for public office?
I am sick and tired of seeing politicians with a laundry list of corporate and special interest affiliations dictate to the silent majority how we should live our lives.
What’s the biggest issue that Omaha faces?
The biggest issue facing Omaha is the erosion of our personal liberties. Career politicians and unelected bureaucrats quietly chip away at our individual freedoms by implementing policies and ordinances with little media coverage or public oversight.
Is there anything else you want to tell voters?
If I don’t come off as a very refined or polished candidate, it is because I am not. I’ve never run for anything. I have never had any political aspirations. My campaign is truly grassroots. My husband is my campaign manager, and we run it out of our kitchen. I am passionate about our community and want to ensure that it is a place we are all proud to call home.
