The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and Justice Center Development Corp. have scheduled three public forums for next week to provide updates on the juvenile justice center project.
The public will have an opportunity to share thoughts and ask questions about the proposed plans, according to a news release.
At a forum last month, Bruce Carpenter of HDR said the project encompasses an eight-story judicial tower, expected to house community programs, court support, public defender, county attorney and six finished courtrooms along with space for two more additional courtrooms; the former four-story MUD building, expected to house probation and community programs; a four-story youth center, expected to have 64 finished beds; and a skywalk that connects the justice center to the main courthouse.
A March estimate put expected construction costs at about $94.6 million plus about $13.7 million in non-construction costs. A $114 million bond issue is proposed to pay for the project.
The forums will be held:
• Monday, May 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Omaha Kroc Center, 2825 Y St.
• Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 11802 Pacific St.
• Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Community College’s Fort Campus, Building 10, 5300 N. 30th St.
