Officials from Sarpy County hosted 64 high school students on Tuesday, Oct. 8, for the annual Cornhusker Boys and Girls County Government Day.
It is the 75th anniversary of the program, which is sponsored by the American Legion. The day gives students an opportunity to learn about civic responsibility.
Participants came from the Bellevue, Papillion-La Vista, Gretna and Springfield Platteview community schools, according to Sarpy County’s Facebook page, facebook.com/sarpycounty.
A proclamation by the Sarpy County Board of Commissioners recalls how Nebraska Chief Justice Robert G. Simmons proposed the concept that became Cornhusker Boys and Girls County Government Day because “good government and good citizenship has to start at home.”
