CITY OF RALSTON
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a meeting of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Ralston, Nebraska, will be held at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 in the Council Chambers at Ralston City Hall, 5500 S. 77th Street, Ralston, NE. An agenda, which is kept continuously current is available for public inspection at the office of the City Clerk at City Hall.

Ralston City Council Meeting
Tuesday, January 16, 2024

The Ralston City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 5:30 PM at Ralston City Hall. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Roll was called with the following present: Council members President Kavanaugh, Krause, Brousek, Kjar, and Preis. Absent: Mayor Groesser and Fideline.
The agenda was available at City Hall for public inspection and posted prior to the meeting. The legal notice for the meeting was published in the Daily Record. Claims listed are approved and part of these minutes.
Pastor Jim Haack, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church gave the invocation. President Kavanaugh welcomed the press and guests. Kavanaugh said the meeting is subject to the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. A copy of the Act is posted at the rear of the Council Chambers and is available to view on the City’s website at www.cityofralston.com.
The City Council reviewed the following items under the consent agenda. Approval of City Council Minutes from December 19th and January 2nd Council Meetings; Approval of Claims; Financial Statements – December 31, 2023; Liberty First Credit Union Arena Financial Statements for period ending November 30, 2023;Department Head and/or Commission Reports. Moved and seconded to approve the Consent Agenda. Aye: Kavanaugh, Krause, Preis, Kjar, and Brousek. Nay: None. Absent: Fideline. Motion carried.
Freshman reported on the successful submittal to FEMA. Peña noted the library had a sprinkler burst and a leak in the roof. Leonardo reported that the Police Department collected eighty Food for Fine items. Leonardo noted they issued 146 citations and 63 warning defect tickets during the month of December. Schulz reported on upcoming events scheduled at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena noting they had to reschedule two Lancer Hockey games due to weather. Roeder reported working on the 2024 event schedule and planning for a plant exchange in February.
Hoppe reported that Embris GROUP secured $600,000 in grants for the Ralston Creek project. $300,000 from the Nebraska Environmental Trust and $300,000 from the Nebraska Department of Energy and Environment 319 program.
President Kavanaugh read and signed a proclamation for National Mentoring Month.
Krause introduced resolution 2024-01. Kelly read Resolution 2024-01 by title only: RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HARRY BOSSARD AMERICAN LEGION POST 32 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL Moved and seconded to approve Resolution 2024-01 . Hoppe noted that the commander for Post 32, Ted Pafford, approached the city asking if the City of Ralston would support recognizing Post 32 as Ralston’s American Legion Veterans organization. On a roll call vote, the following votes were recorded on the electronic voting board. Aye: Kavanaugh, Krause, Preis, Kjar, and Brousek. Nay: None. Absent: Fideline. Motion carried.
Moved and seconded the appointment of Amanda Peña and Shelly Stotts to the Ralston Arts and Creative District Board. Aye: Krause, Preis, Kjar, Brousek, and Kavanaugh. Nay: None. Absent: Fideline. Motion carried.
Public Comment: None. Council Comment: Krause asked about cleaning up the snow and snow plows possibly causing some damage. Hoppe responded that Public Works goes out in the spring and do the best they can situation by situation. There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 5:52 PM. The next meeting is Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
