Children’s Disability Review Due Dates Extended in FEMA Disaster Areas to Provide Some Relief

Published by admin on Tue, 06/18/2019 - 12:00am

Lincoln – Natural disasters this spring have caused considerable hardships for many Nebraskans.

In order to provide some relief during this difficult time, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is extending deadlines for children’s disability redetermination in affected parts of the state.

Children 17 years and younger living in an area designated as a FEMA disaster area between March 8, 2019, and Sept. 8, 2019, who were scheduled to have a disability or institutional level of care redetermination during that time have been given redetermination date extensions.

Benefits will continue during this extension. These extensions do not apply to initial institutional determinations.

Original due dates between March 9 and April 30 are extended to Oct. 31. Original due dates between May 1 and June 30 are extended to Nov. 30. Original due dates between July 1 and Sept. 9 are extended to Dec. 31.

As of May 30, nearly all counties in Nebraska were affected except for Arthur, Chase, Dundy, Grant, Hays, Hitchcock, Hooker, Keith, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow and Thomas counties.
