Blair Freeman Brings Simplicity, Clarity to Construction
Little did Ashley Kuhn and Maranda Adams know when they started business together that their complementary strengths made them a match from heaven.
The alumni of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln have been the butter to each other’s bread since they began planning their business venture back in 2017.
They connected first during college and then again during a development project, and their combined nearly four decades of finance and development experience came together.
“As we started navigating through her project, we realized that it was way more complicated than it needed to be,” Kuhn said. “That was where our company was born – from us navigating that process.”
People often begin the development and construction process but find themselves getting stuck and canceling their plans because they don’t know how to seek assistance.
Adams and Kuhn decided to found a firm, Blair Freeman, in August 2018 to solve that problem.
The firm also includes several real estate agents, a construction team and other professionals, growing the classmates’ partnership into a blended family.
“We’re best friends,” Kuhn said.
Whether it is simplifying terminologies to break down each facet of the construction process, Blair Freeman goes the extra mile so clients can have confidence. The firm ensures clients know where their money is going, whether they’re on budget and can ask questions about transparency along the way. The firm’s services include acting as owners’ representatives, but Blair Freeman also offers full-service construction and real estate departments that operate under the Nebraska Realty umbrella.
“Commercial is what we know the best and what we like to do the most,” Kuhn said, but Blair Freeman has a diverse portfolio of work.
Adams and Kuhn have always operated from an owner’s perspective and are committed to always act in the owner’s best interest. Kuhn said the firm works to get clients what they want through changing the scope of a project to avoid costs, as well as taking a holistic view of their customer’s desired outcomes.
“Our gut instinct is to operate in the owners’ best interest,” Kuhn said.
Like detectives, Blair Freeman is constantly keeping an eye on daily operations of a business even before construction starts. The firm also seeks to avoid interruptions in business while construction is underway.
Because of the firm’s fastidiousness and dedication to helping its clientele, Blair Freeman has been selected as the Greater Omaha Chamber’s Small Business of the Month.
“We were so excited to win the award,” Adams said. “We’ve done a lot of work with the chamber, and they’ve always been so supportive. It’s those awards that come from the community, from those organizations that have been so supportive of us that mean the most.”
In fact, helping their clientele and walking alongside them through their development journey is what is most rewarding to the team at Blair Freeman.
“We’re just trying to do our best to impact our community and leave a legacy for our families so just to be honored in the process of doing that and helping our clients is amazing,” Adams said.
Kuhn said it’s rewarding to walk someone through the process and know they’ve learned from the experience – even if that means they could do it themselves for the next project.
“Most likely, they enjoyed working with you so much that they wouldn’t do that,” Kuhn said.
Adams said one of the draws she had to work with Kuhn was their ability to simplify a project together.
“I love the fact that we’re able to go in and help people have a smooth process,” Adams said. “The fact that we (are) able to go in and simplify something for somebody and help them through the entire process from start to finish and, at the end, having them be so thankful and grateful for that – it’s awesome.”
