The Nebraska Paralegal Association and Omaha Bar Association will hold their first joint event, focused on how to build inclusive work environments.

Unity in Diversity: Working Together to Achieve Success will be held Wednesday, June 5, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Scott Conference Center in Omaha.

“This topic is something that we don’t really see in the Omaha area that much,” said Amber Roberts, current NePA president.

Roberts said she believes that members of NePA, OBA and Human Resources Association of the Midlands would all find the seminar’s information useful.

Dave Sommers, executive director of the OBA, said he is excited about the upcoming event.

“It looks to be a great event for those in attendance,” he said.

The afternoon seminar will include two speakers and a panel of five representatives from Omaha companies who will answer questions from the audience.

Ryan Sallans will speak about respecting transgender employees and clients. Sallans is a nationally renowned transgendered speaker, author and advocate who shares his personal story and discusses how institutions can create supportive environments.

Omaha attorney Joan Watke Stacy with Sena, Polk & Stacy LLP will speak about LGBTQ rights and obligations in the workplace. Stacy has been in private practice for more than two decades, and she is a long-serving volunteer with the national LGBTQ advocacy group PFLAG as well as the Professional Transgender Resource Network.

Advance registration is required before May 24. Seating is limited, and the organizations anticipate selling out of tickets. The cost is $25 per person, which includes the three educational sessions, an afternoon snack and a networking opportunity. To register, visit omahabarassociation.

Nebraska attorneys can receive up to 3.5 hours of CLE credit. The seminar also meets the CLE requirements for paralegals to maintain their certified paralegal credential.
