Berry Leads Town Hall About Veterans Facing Coronavirus
The CEO of Berry Law Firm is hosting a global virtual town hall on solutions to coronavirus issues for U.S. military veterans.
John Berry Jr., a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a veterans law attorney, will host “Coronavirus and Veterans” at noon on Wednesday, June 3. The event will feature leaders from Congress, the military and other expert panelists to address issues emerging from the pandemic.
“As a veteran, I’m passionate about helping veterans better navigate health, financial and lifestyle obstacles that COVID-19 has presented,” Berry said in a news release. “I want to do all I can to ensure the veteran community has vital, relevant, fact-based and useful information and this virtual event is a power means toward that end.”
Military veterans are disproportionately affected by the impacts of the pandemic. Many are facing a “perfect storm” of trauma and loneliness from social isolation and unplanned wage or job loss that threatens their mental health.
The forum plans to examine the impact of the coronavirus on veterans and what society can do to uphold them going forward.
Expert panelists include Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona; Assal Ravandi, CEO of the Academy of United States Veterans and the chair of The VETTYS Awards; Air Force Col. Dr. Mickra Hamilton; and retired Navy Seal Chriss Smith. Nearly a dozen military organizations and other partners are scheduled to participate, and an audience in excess of 200,000 viewers is anticipated.
Berry’s father, John Stevens Berry Sr., served in Vietnam. In his service with the U.S. Army, John Berry Jr. led troops in the United States, Bosnia and Iraq.
“As a military veteran myself and hailing from a family that’s duly served, this issue is very personal to me and is what drives my legal work on behalf of veterans every day,” Berry said. “Our law firm, started by my father, has worked with thousands of veterans in all 50 states, listening to their stories and helping them successfully navigate through the legal system when issues arise.”
