NOTICE OF ELECTION
DOUGLAS COUNTY
SCHOOL DISTRICT 0059
(BENNINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS)
IN THE STATE OF NEBRASKA
Public notice is hereby given to the qualified electors of Douglas County School District 0059 (Bennington Public Schools), in the State of Nebraska, that at a special election called and to be held on March 12, 2024, there shall be submitted to the qualified electors of the District the following proposition:
“Shall Douglas County School District 0059 (Bennington Public Schools), in the State of Nebraska, issue the bonds of said District in the principal amount of not to exceed One Hundred Nineteen Million Dollars ($119,000,000) for the purpose of paying the costs of constructing, acquiring and improving District facilities, which shall include a new high school building and related facilities, providing for necessary furniture, technology, and apparatus for such building, facilities, and additions; said bonds to be issued from time to time as may be determined by the Board of Education, to bear interest at a rate or rates to be determined by the Board of Education and to become due at such time or times as may be fixed by the Board of Education; and
“Shall the District cause to be levied and collected annually a special levy of taxes against all the taxable property in said District sufficient in rate and amount to pay the interest and principal of said bonds as the same become due?”

Electors voting in favor of said proposition shall blacken completely the oval opposite the words “FOR said bonds and tax” following said proposition, and electors voting against said proposition shall blacken completely the oval opposite the words “AGAINST said bonds and tax” following said proposition.
Election by Mail
This election will be an election by mail. Each registered voter residing within the District will receive a ballot by mail at his/her address as it appears on the voter registration register; and therefore no polling places will be open for voting. Ballots will be mailed by the Election Commissioner of Douglas County and Washington County Clerk between Tuesday, February 20, 2024 and Friday, March 1, 2024.
Voter Registration Deadlines
Residents within the District and Douglas County must register at the Douglas County Election Commission.
Residents within the District and Washington County must register with the Washington County Clerk.
February 23, 2024: is the last day to register to vote online, at an agency, with a deputy registrar, or by mail.
March 1, 2024: is the last day for in-person voter registration at the respective election office (6:00 p.m.).
Ballot Return Deadline
All voted ballots must be received by the respective election office no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Ballots voted by Douglas County voters must be delivered or mailed to the Douglas County Election Commission at 12220 W Center Road, Omaha, Nebraska 68144 or placed in a Douglas County Election Commission official ballot drop box. Drop box locations available for this election are as follows:
