Posting Information: Notice published in the Daily Record on 02/09/2024.  Notice of meeting posted on the District website.  Agendas posted at all Bennington Public School buildings three days prior to the meeting date.

I. Call Meeting to Order- Vice President Tim Dreessen called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. The Board of Education makes available at least one current copy of the Open Meetings Act posted in the meeting room at a location accessible to members of the public.

 

II. Public Forum- Two members of the public were present to speak.

 

III. Consent Agenda (Note: Items on the consent agenda are considered routine and will be enacted under one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items at the meeting unless a Board Member requests an item removed from the agenda for separate action.)

A. Approval of Agenda

B. Approval of Previous Minutes of the Monday, January 8, 2024- Regular Meeting

C. Presentation of February bills for Approval and Payment

D. Personnel:  Resignation(s) and Hiring of Personnel

February 2024 Personnel Notes- Certificated Staff Hire:  Ben Tomkins- English teacher at BHS.  James Feeney III- Director of Secondary Education.  Support Staff Hire:  Makayla Kriley- special education para.  Tammy Dickens- preschool para.  Certificated Staff Resignations:  Jackie Muller- middle school counselor. Amanda Hollman- elementary teacher. Chris Showman- middle school teacher.  Angela Lowe- middle school teacher.  Lisa Schonhoff- ELL teacher.  Sara Mahrt- elementary teacher.  Vivian Hinton- special education teacher.  Lani Baca- middle school teacher.  Shane Thibault- elementary PE teacher.  Classified Staff Resignations:  Leigha Gerbers- paraprofessional.  Angela Mumford- Food Service.

 

IV. Items Removed From the Consent Agenda for Separate Action- No items were removed from the Consent Agenda.

 

V. Reports-  Elementary- Craig Theis, Middle School- Renee Rucker, High School- Greg Lamberty, Student Services- Dan Bombeck, Operations- Matt Blomenkamp, CIA- Dee Hoge Superintendent- Aaron Plas presented reports to the Board.  Committee Report: Curriculum and Building and Finance committees reviewed past meetings.  Policy Committee did not meet.  Coordinator Report - Transportation/Facilities - Jeremy Edens.  Spotlight 1- Instructional Coaches - Emily Panning and Mary Beth Bates.  Spotlight 2- MTSS-Behavior - Jamie Christensen and Alex Bottroff.  Lobbyist- Julia Plucker presented Legislation information to the Board.

 

VI. Unfinished Business

VI.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action to Revise Policy 408.02 Certificated Employee Contract Release- This policy was recommended by the administration.

VI.B. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on the 2025-26 School Calendar- At the previous meeting, three potential options for the 2025-26 school calendar were outlined.  Additional time was spent gathering survey results from staff.

VII. New Business

VII.A. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on 2024-2025 School Year Option Enrollment Capacity Numbers- Each year, the district must establish option enrollment capacity limits to determine the eligibility of option students entering the district.

MOTION PASSED:  Motion to approve the resolution to set the grade level capacity enrollment for Policy #502.02 - Nonresident Students and Regulation #502.02R1 - Nonresident Students - Option Enrollment as presented, passed with a motion by Kristi Ryan and a second by Jeremy Dick.  Jeremy Dick: Yea, Tim Dreessen: Yea, Kara Neuverth: Yea, Kristi Ryan: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea

VII.B. Discuss, Consider, and Take Action on Curriculum and Personnel Proposals- The Curriculum Committee met on January 8th to continue the process of determining which curriculum and personnel proposals to recommend for the 2024-25 school year.  #36- 2.0 HS Cross Country Coach.  #45- HS PST Leader.  #41- JV Cheerleading Team.  #44- Percussion Instructor.  #22- Adjust Level of Pay for Elementary Gym Coordinator.  #37- HS Athletic Aides on Extra Duty Schedule.  The estimated cost for these positions is $15,425. These positions would be allocated from the 2024-25 General Fund budget.

VII.C. Executive Session to Discuss Pending Litigation

MOTION PASSED:  Motion for the Board to enter into closed session at 7:42 p.m. to hold a strategy session regarding pending litigation as an executive session is clearly necessary for the protection of the public interest, passed with a motion by Tim Dreessen and a second by Jeremy Dick.  Jeremy Dick: Yea, Tim Dreessen: Yea, Kara Neuverth: Yea, Kristi Ryan: Yea, Steve Shannon: Yea.  The Board entered into regular session at 8:10 p.m.

 

VIII. Time and Date of Next Regular Meeting- March 11th – Regular Meeting at 6:00PM – Bennington District Office

 

IX. Adjournment- Motion to adjourn at 8:11 p.m. made by Jeremy Dick, seconded by Kara Neuverth.  All in favor.
