The City of Bellevue joined a public-private partnership with a local resident to rebuild the campground at Haworth Park.
The campground was destroyed in the flood of 2019, after being rebuilt following the flood of 2011. The park is designed to be flooded by the Missouri River, but in both cases the park remained inundated with floodwater for months.
City officials agreed to the partnership with Roger Winsor to establish and maintain the campground at the park. Winsor is leasing the property from the city to operate the campground.
The cleanup is expected to begin soon to open the park for the 2021 camping season, according to a city news release.
The campground loop and old marina remain closed to the public. However, a nearby trailhead is open to the Bellevue Loop Trail, the southern extension of the Keystone Trail, and the lease agreement does not affect access to the public boat ramps, baseball and softball fields or American Heroes Park.
