Growing UNMC Omaha Campus Seeks Modern Student Housing Option, Aims To Build Six-Story Project

OMAHA — Responding to a growing demand from students, the University of Nebraska’s main medical training campus is diving into new territory: building new on-campus student housing.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center hopes to self-finance a $66 million residential complex that would rise six stories southeast of 39th Street and Dewey Avenue, on the northeastern edge of its midtown Omaha home base.

BELLEVUE — Despite not getting all the state funding hoped for this year, a cybersecurity-centric campus that proponents believe will thrust Nebraska into the forefront of national security efforts is moving forward.

Construction could start by the end of this year on the Prairie Hill Farm site northeast of Highways 75 and 34, said Harrison Johnson, Bellevue’s director of economic and community development.

SPARROWS POINT, Md. (AP) — Nearly three weeks since Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed under the impact of a wayward cargo ship, crews are using the largest crane on the Eastern Seaboard to haul the wreckage to a nearby salvage yard.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Stunned Palestinians found their home city unrecognizable Monday as they filtered in to salvage what they could from the vast destruction left by Israeli troops who withdrew from southern Gaza's Khan Younis a day earlier after months of fighting and bombardment.

Bill Advanced To Finance Development Of ‘Good Life’ Retail Districts With Little Debate

LINCOLN — State lawmakers gave first-round approval Thursday to a measure that would allow communities, by a public vote, to provide a generous tax benefit for unique retail developments.

There was very little mention, however, of the “Good Life District Economic Development Act” during the debate over Legislative Bill 1317, a combination of several bills advanced from the Revenue Committee.

Happier, More Connected Neighborhoods Start Right In The Front Yard

A salve for America’s loneliness epidemic could exist right in front of its homes.

Front yards are a staple of many American neighborhoods. Lush plantings, porches or trinkets can capture the attention of passersby and spark conversation. Other lawns say “stay away,” whether it’s through imposing fences or foreboding signs.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said Monday he plans to meet with members of Congress to discuss support for rebuilding the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge, which has blocked the main shipping channel at Baltimore's port for nearly two weeks.
