February’s Omaha Table Talk, hosted by University of Nebraska-Omaha and with a pilot launch of a dual event in Lincoln, focused on re-entry into society for the justice impacted. Hosted by the Omaha Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), this panel was run by Shakur Abdullah, Senior Restorative Justice Trainer at the Community Justice Center as well as Restorative Justice Coordinator at Creighton University.

A New York jury found on Feb. 23, 2024, that the National Rifle Association and three of its current and former officials had broken the state’s laws by misusing charitable assets. It also determined that two of the officials should repay the gun group millions of dollars.

Felius is Omaha’s only cat café and rescue. Founded by Bre Phelan in 2018, Felius works to help rescued cats and kittens find their forever home. Their mission is to “create meaningful, authentic connections between people and rescue cats” with their cat shelter and café. Since their founding they have helped over 1,100 cats find homes as well as over 800 with their Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNR) program.

Their ceramics can be found in tens of thousands of homes in Omaha and the country. While they might not ever fetch the price of a Picasso, the pieces are regarded as priceless works of art, not for their monetary value, but for their sentiment.

OMAHA — In a Tuesday press release, the Omaha FBI field office called out to the public to help in identifying victims of abuse that occurred within a religious group dating back to the 1980s. “The group traditionally does not have a name. It is referred to by others outside the group as ‘2x2’, ‘The Way,’ ‘The Truth,’ and ‘The Church With No Name’.

A study by the company moveBuddha – an organization studying trends in moving and assisting individuals in making changing homes easier- names Nebraska as 6th in the country on their list of the worst states for rental stability. The company used tenant reviews from Rate The Landlord to scale local populations.

With more than 200 young people aging out of foster care across Nebraska each year, up to 40 percent of them are likely to become houseless. But a new community designed to provide housing and job opportunities for former foster children offers a rebirth for the old Dana College campus in Blair, about 20 miles north of Omaha.

The nationwide 2024 Court Reporting & Captioning Week, sponsored by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), will be celebrated by court reporters, captioners, legal videographers and others involved in the legal community Feb. 3-10. 2024 will mark the event’s 12th year of observance and is being celebrated during NCRA’s 125th Anniversary themed: 125 Years of Accuracy and Integrity.

BFF Omaha, or Benson First Friday, was founded in 2012 by artists themselves with the intention of building their community by getting Omaha citizens to engage the arts. They became a nonprofit in 2015 and have continued to grow as they hit 12 years in operation.
