I stood on Kyiv’s main boulevard, Khreshchatyk, one year ago, on Aug. 24, 2021, celebrating along with thousands of Ukrainians who were watching the Independence Day parade.
The parade featured newly obtained weapons such as the lightweight missile systems known as Javelins. There were flyovers by Ukraine’s air forces, including the largest plane in the world at the time, known as the “Dream.”

OMAHA — Voters in eastern Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District will get at least one debate this fall, and likely two, Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Flood said this week.
Flood responded to criticism from his Democratic opponent, State Sen. Patty Pansing Brooks, whom Flood beat 53-47 in a rare June special election to finish GOP Rep. Jeff Fortenberry’s term.

OMAHA — Evidence against a Norfolk, Nebraska, mother and her teen in a case alleging an illegal abortion is opening a new digital front in the national battle over abortion.
Police allege in court documents that Celeste Burgess, then 17 years old, told police in April that she had suffered a miscarriage in a bathtub at her home. She said she and her mom buried the stillborn, the documents show.
