LINCOLN — Sydney Hutchinson had a lifelong dream to attend a veterinary program  offered in Nebraska and Iowa for her doctoral medicine degree, but in February she was on track to attend Kansas State University instead.

What Kamala Harris has managed to do in a month is totally redefine herself in the eyes of American voters. She went from being a mostly disapproved of vice president to being a positively viewed candidate in the space of four weeks. What it proves is what I've suspected all along: that the disapproval of her was not deeply rooted. It was mostly a reflection of the general malaise, fairly or unfairly, associated with the Biden administration.

LINCOLN — Nebraska Supreme Court justices on Wednesday peppered lawyers from the ACLU and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office with questions about whether the Legislature has the constitutional authority to restore the voting rights of people who committed felonies.

I wish I was really as smart as I sometimes think I am. When it comes to many problems I’ve got the solutions. And if you don’t believe me, just ask me.

But when it comes to how we deal with juvenile crime and the new downtown Juvenile Justice building I’m right there with the Douglas County Commissioners and I haven’t got a clue.

OMAHA — At least two types of local conservatives met Wednesday with U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, the Republican vice presidential nominee, during his visit to Nebraska: grassroots and donors.

More than 175 Republican activists attended a private event at the downtown DJ’s Dugout to meet former President Donald Trump’s running mate, some wearing flag apparel or MAGA hats.
