LINCOLN — An international foundation dedicated to preserving “quiet places” will honor Nebraska’s scenic Niobrara River for its “pristine natural soundscape largely free from man-made noise.”
On Oct. 20, Indiana-based Quiet Parks International will designate the 76-mile-long Niobrara National Scenic River corridor east of Valentine as an official “Quiet Trail.”

Pope Francis has frequently spoken about climate change during his decade-long leadership of the Roman Catholic Church. In 2015, he devoted an entire encyclical to the matter, citing scientific consensus that the Earth is warming due to human activity. And he is expected to release a new document that he said will “address current problems” related to climate issues.
