"Cat Eats Fox" was Matt Drudge's headline after Kamala Harris' much touted "interview" with Fox News anchor Bret Baier. It wasn't really an interview. He whined about her coming in 15 minutes late for a pretaped interview and then barely let her answer a question before interrupting her, talking over her and generally just playing to his Fox News choir, including President Donald Trump, who roundly cheered his performance afterward.

Today, the theme is multicultural, and the flag bearers have no shortage of countries: Philippines, India, Haiti, Mexico, United States. Most of them older adults, attendees dance through the room, waving streamers and banging drums as Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me” blasts.

Psychologists know that childhood trauma, or the experience of harmful or adverse events, can have lasting repercussions on the health and well-being of people well into adulthood. But while the consequences of early adversity have been well researched in humans, people aren’t the only ones who can experience adversity.

This is a hard column for me to write. I’ve had the thought behind it for quite a while, but I still didn’t want to write it. I kept putting it off and even considered just being silent and not writing anything at all.
But If I keep quiet, I’d be doing the very thing I’m railing against. So, I’ve got to speak up.
