Nebraska Judiciary Welcomes Beau Finley To The Bench

An oath of office and robing ceremony was held for Hon. Beau G. Finley, the newly appointed county court judge for Nebraska’s Fourth Judicial District, last Friday at the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center. Among those attending were (left to right) Attorney Peder Bartling; Hon. Matthew Kahler, Douglas County Juvenile Court; Hon. Beau G. Finley; and Attorney Kevin Ryan.

Before a gathered crowd, attended by those near and dear, many who helped shape and mentor his career, the Hon. Beau G. Finley was formally appointed a county court judge for the Fourth Judicial District of Nebraska.

FBI Seeks Information On Potential Victims Of Abuse

OMAHA — In a Tuesday press release, the Omaha FBI field office called out to the public to help in identifying victims of abuse that occurred within a religious group dating back to the 1980s. “The group traditionally does not have a name. It is referred to by others outside the group as ‘2x2’, ‘The Way,’ ‘The Truth,’ and ‘The Church With No Name’.

SCOTT V. HAHN recently joined the experienced team of family law experts at Slowiaczek Albers & Whelan, PC LLO in November 2023. He brings more than 15 years of litigation experience in family law cases to the firm. Such cases in which Scott has represented clients include divorce, paternity and custody, modifications, protection orders, and collaborative divorce matters. Scott is an Omaha native and graduated from Creighton University and the Creighton University School of Law.

Creighton School Of Law Presents Its 2023 Annual Moot Court Competition

Creighton law school students were busy all fall, preparing for its annual moot court competition. The final round happened on Friday, October 27, 2023. Moot court competitions are often an elected course for many law schools, but Creighton requires all second-year students to prepare written and oral arguments, to be presented to a panel of judges. It provides a real-life experience to argue an appellate case.

In 1963, Gideon v. Wainwright confirmed a defendant’s right to counsel, yet today the equal access to the right to counsel can be disproportionate for indigent defendants.

While the United States Supreme Court confirmed a defendant’s right to counsel in 1963 via Gideon v. Wainwright (372 U.S. 335), much work continues to level the playing field in actually ensuring proper representation for indigent defendants, says Jason D. Williamson, a leading national advocate on the issue.
