Upcoming Chamber YP Summit Announces Change Makers
The Greater Omaha Chamber’s YP Summit has announced four Change Makers it plans to recognize at the annual event Friday.
The YP Summit – billed as the largest in Nebraska and the nation – will bring together 1,500 young professionals to the CHI Health Center in Omaha to collaborate, connect and innovate, according to the Omaha Chamber.
The emerging leaders recognized as Change Makers are:
• Darryl Brown Jr., founding and senior pastor of Kingdom Builders Christian Center.
Diagnosed with HIV in his 20s, Brown spent years before he ultimately forgave the man who gave him the virus. He now provides sexual health education to youth and has created programs to help the homeless.
“Allowing the spiritual, sexual, and mental health condition of our community to remain the same is absolutely not good enough. The remedy is to make change,” Brown said.
• Jasmine L. Harris, public policy and advocacy director, RISE.
RISE is a career-building initiative serving currently and formerly incarcerated people.
“Jasmine’s passion and commitment to serve her hometown Omaha and fight for people impacted by the criminal justice system is an inspiration to us all and improves the lives of so many in our community,” RISE founder and CEO Jeremy Bouman said.
• Candias Jones, professional career coach, Mutual of Omaha.
A childhood sexual trauma and violence survivor, Jones says she channeled her experience to create a career coaching program that serves as an outlet for Mutual of Omaha employees to share similar traumatic events.
Jones applies her “passion and commitment” to encourage individual – and community – transformation, while increasing employee engagement and retention.
• Lynn Schneider, creative strategist, Emspace + Lovgren.
Schneider built Emspace + Lovgren’s student outreach program, Forge, which is now in its eighth year. The program brings 10 to 12 area communications and design students into the firm to gain insights, begin building their professional networks and learn about opportunities in Omaha.
“Our connections with former Forgers are strong, and we are delighted that so many of them have become our professional peers over the years,” Emspace President Elizebeth Murphy said.
The YP Summit seeks to provide positive experience that energizes youth professionals while celebrating many points of view and challenging attendees.
