Two Hearings Scheduled For Turnback Tax Grant Proposals
Two public hearings are coming up regarding “turnback tax” grants offered by Douglas County and the City of Omaha.
Grant proposals are sought for projects showcasing important historical aspects of defined areas within north and south Omaha or that assist with the reduction of street and gang violence in those areas, county spokeswoman Leia Baez said in a news release.
Grant applications are available at two upcoming meetings:
• South Omaha Historical Grant Committee: Wednesday, Sept. 18, 5 p.m. at Omaha Police Department Southeast Precinct, 2475 Deer Park Blvd.
• North Omaha Historical Grant Committee: Monday, Sept. 23, 5:30 p.m. at Urban League of Nebraska, 3040 Lake St.
The funding is awarded under the revised Nebraska Convention Center Facility Financing Assistance Act, which provides that 10 percent of the funds received by the City of Omaha in “turnback tax” be distributed to areas with a “high concentration of poverty.”
