Turner Award Winner Penned Over 60 Law Review Articles
Dennis Collins of Norfolk-based law firm Jewell & Collins was honored last week with the George H. Turner Award during the Nebraska State Bar Association 2020 Annual Meeting.
The award, named after the late state librarian and clerk of the Nebraska Supreme Court, is awarded to a “member of the NSBA who has demonstrated unusual efforts in furthering the public understanding of the legal system, the administration of justice, and confidence in the legal profession.”
Collins, a general practice lawyer with an emphasis on estate and business succession planning, was recognized for his contributions to educational materials on legal matters. He is a University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate who was admitted to legal practice in 1971.
Since then, Collins has published more than 60 law review articles. He has also served as a CLE speaker at the University of Nebraska Law School’s Estate and Business Planning Program for more than 35 years.
He got his start writing articles because he “needed an answer to some legal question, which led to whether somebody else could use this answer,” Collins said.
“I always learn more from writing, and that’s terrific,” he added.
In addition to his practice, Collins is a Fellow in the American College of Trust & Estate Council – a prestigious peer-elected position in a national group of top-tier lawyers practicing wills and trust, estate planning and tax law.
“This award came out of the blue and was terrific fun to receive,” Collins said.
