Stephen Center Shelter Earns Accreditation
A South Omaha homeless shelter, along with its permanent supportive housing and co-occurring treatment center, earned a three-year accreditation and is the only shelter accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in Nebraska.
The Stephen Center, near 28th and Q streets, has had its HERO addiction recovery program accredited since 2010. This is the first time the Pettigrew Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing Apartments programs have received accreditation, according to a news release.
CARF establishes national consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services, the release states. Stephen Center is the only organization in Nebraska with accreditation for its shelter.
“Having spent several days with the talented staff at Stephen Center, and seeing how dedicated and compassionate they are, I can state with confidence that the Stephen Center is a vital and necessary part of the Omaha community,” Howard Goldberg, administrative surveyor for CARF International, said in a release.
CARF provides accreditation services worldwide at the request of health and human service providers. For more information on the group, visit carf.org.
