State Senator, Secretary of State Report Positive COVID-19 Tests
A state lawmaker from Norfolk is self-isolating at home after he contracted the coronavirus.
Sen. Mike Flood missed the final few days of the special session after testing positive.
Flood, who received the two-dose Pfizer vaccine in April, said his symptoms started with a stuffy nose on Sept. 24 as he drove home from the Capitol and grew worse over the weekend. He said he lost his sense of smell and taste and noticed a blister on his finger.
Flood said some of his symptoms have cleared, but he’s remaining at home. Flood, a former speaker of the Legislature, returned to office in 2021 after an eight-year hiatus. He previously served from 2005 to 2013.
Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen confirmed last week that he had also tested positive on Sept. 26 and was working from home.
A spokeswoman said Evnen had been fully vaccinated and that his symptoms are not severe
Evnen was first elected in 2018. He previously served on the Nebraska State Board of Education and was an attorney in Lincoln. He also was active in the 2016 ballot campaign to preserve Nebraska’s death penalty after the Legislature abolished it. No Democratic candidate has announced a challenge.
