Small Business of the Month: Red Branch Media
Red Branch Media might feel more like a typical marketing agency than an elite digital marketing agency until looking at its business model.
Like American Express, Red Branch Media offers a tiered membership model and partners with companies across the country to serve their customers with ease.
Everything has to fit into what Red Branch wants to sell, said CEO Maren Hogan.
“We’re not going to do blog writing, social media, strategizing by itself,” Hogan said. “It all has to happen in a working machine in order to produce the result the client wants.”
Because of this philosophy, members choose tiers depending on the amount of time spent on each platform rather than rationing out individual services, allowing for comprehensive coverage, no matter their budget.
Hogan worked for several human resources technology companies as a consultant before joining Eric Fouch and Jeremy Hogan in 2010 to create Red Branch Media. Named for a creative piece of décor in her home, the concept centered around the idea of transforming a simple item into something fresh and innovative.
Many of the company’s clients are in the HR field, which means they are always needing to find new ways of promoting companies and their services – especially when using social media to connect with prospective employees.
Hogan said that social media has completely transformed since the Great Recession. Because of Omaha’s budget-friendly cost of living, Red Branch Media is appealing to companies all over the U.S. and serves CEOs directly, while continually changing the way success is measured.
“We can’t even compare stats from Facebook six months ago” because of the relentless pace of changes in the social media giant’s algorithms, Hogan said.
Garnering a reputation as a dynamic, fun company, Red Branch Media has been selected by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce as September’s Small Business of the Month because of its bold philosophy and impact it has on Omaha’s marketing community.
Hogan said the company has been a chamber member since its early days.
“It’s important to invest in the community in general, but I want to make sure that I was supporting the people who are supporting us,” Hogan said.
Red Branch Media’s impact can be found at other Omaha businesses, as it has helped develop talent that’s gone on to do other work. While some companies may see continuous turnover as disheartening, Hogan feels just the opposite.
“People who have left Red Branch have gone on to some of the best companies in Omaha,” Hogan said. “In some way I feel like we’re impacting the marketing talent in the city.”
Generating well-trained, smart marketing professionals, Red Branch Media has a reputation as an amazing place to work and do business. Its employees are given creative license to break new ground.
Kyle Christensen, a graphic designer for the media firm, has been working there almost six years. He started as an intern, and he said he appreciates the company’s culture.
“The coolest thing is when we get to try out our ideas as we have them,” Christensen said.
The company also values what Hogan refers to as “brutal transparency” – empowering people to find their voice and separate their work from their personal ego to improve. Christensen said that approach gives the client added trust and helps the company bring clients’ vision to fruition without any guesswork.
