Second Annual City Youth Celebration of MLK Tonight
The City of Omaha’s second annual Living the Dream original social justice music, poetry and dance competition is tonight.
Community members are invited to the high school contest from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. Admission is free, and doors open at 5 p.m.
Students from the metro area will gather to compete in several spoken word, vocal music, instrumental music and interpretive dance categories. Entries are original pieces created by students on subjects connected to civil rights and social justice issues.
Cash prizes and trophies will ge presented to the winners after the performances. Audience members will choose between two finalists for a grand prize of $1,000.
The main theme for the contest is “learning to live together as one united people.” The event is sponsored by the City of Omaha Human Rights Department.
