Sarpy County Bar Association Hopes Site Boosts Involvement
The Sarpy County Bar Association unveiled a new website last week with the hope that more members will take advantage of everything the organization has to offer.
“I think we just want to be more current and to have more ease for our members,” SCBA President Mandy Gruhlkey said. “Because whenever we have events, we would just send out mass emails, and while we’ll probably still do that, we also wanted a place where members could go to to see what events are coming up and then also to pay their membership dues online.”
SCBA members will also be able to manage their own profile pages, where members can easily include contact information and detail the areas of law they practice.
“We noticed that our membership is getting younger and they’re just more adept at managing their own member profiles,” said SCBA Secretary Ryan Watson, who has been overseeing construction of the new website. “This is something that we as board members do on a voluntary basis, so if we can make that as automated as possible, it just makes it easier for everybody to get done.”
Members will be able to choose whether they want their profile to appear in a searchable public directory. The new website also includes a dedicated events page that will list upcoming bar association functions and provides a way for members to register online.
The SCBA will also be able to offer more complex membership options, Watson said.
“Now we can explore doing different levels of the membership instead of just one flat level of membership,” Watson said.
Watson suggested that new membership options could include discounted rates for young lawyers and retired judges.
“Also, when it comes to event management, we’ll be able to offer a little bit more complex offerings,” Watson said. “Sponsorship packages are something that we can now offer through an online store.”
The SCBA also plans to have merchandise emblazoned with the bar association’s logo available for purchase through an online store.
Gruhlkey said that the site will eventually contain a detailed history of the association, including records of previous board members and other historical items of interest.
SCBA members should have received an email with instructions on how to create an account for the new website. Those who didn’t receive the instructions can email Watson at ryan@wmwlegal.com or visit the website at sarpycountybarassociation.wildapricot.org and click “Apply Here.”
In addition to having a new website, the SCBA is getting ready to appoint new board members.
The SCBA will be holding an election for new board members later this year. Open positions include president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. A request for nominations will be sent to members in early September.
Nominations should include a short biography of the nominated individual, including details of their legal career, and must be received no later than Sept. 27.
Gruhlkey will begin accepting officer nominations at mandy@sarpy
countybarassociation.com on Sept. 3. Voting will be held the week of Oct. 4 and only paid 2021 members are allowed to vote.
