Ricketts Welcomes Nebraska’s Next Chief Medical Officer
Lincoln – Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services CEO Dannette R. Smith recently announced the appointment of Gary J. Anthone, M.D., as the state’s next chief medical officer and director of the Division of Public Health for the State of Nebraska.
“I am excited to have Dr. Anthone on our DHHS team,” said Ricketts. “Dr. Anthone is a talented physician who brings extensive experience that will serve Nebraskans well as our chief medical officer.” “
Anthone previously worked at a private surgical practice in Omaha, where he was also a faculty member at the Department of Surgery at Creighton University. Prior to that, he was director of bariatric surgery at Methodist Hospital in Omaha and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Anthone holds a Bachelor of Arts from Benedictine College in Kansas. He earned both his M.S. and M.D. degrees from Creighton University. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Anthone started Sept. 3. His salary was set at $250,000.
