Ricketts Appoints New Director of Nebraska Department of Insurance
Eric Dunning has been tapped to be the next director of the Nebraska Department of Insurance, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts recently announced.
This is a return for Dunning, who worked as an attorney at the department for 15 years before joining Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska as the insurance company’s director of government affairs in December 2013.
“Eric is a highly respected leader in our state’s insurance industry with impressive legal, public policy, and private sector experience,” Ricketts said in a news release. “Having previously spent over a decade-and-a-half with the department, he has the knowledge to hit the ground running as director.”
Dunning, a fifth-generation Nebraskan, will replace outgoing director Bruce Ramge, who announced his retirement in January.
“Over the years, I’ve developed strong relationships within the industry and gained a thorough knowledge of state and federal insurance statutes,” Dunning said. “I’m grateful to Gov. Ricketts for this opportunity to give vision and insight to the Department of Insurance so that we can continue to grow Nebraska.”
Dunning earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and attended Notre Dame Law School. He is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association and currently serves on the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce Health Committee. He is also the treasurer of the Nebraskaland Foundation.
Dunning will officially begin his tenure April 19.
