Redistricting Public Hearings Set for G.I., Lincoln, Omaha
The Nebraska Legislature will convene a special session Monday at 10 a.m. to consider the redistricting plan.
The Redistricting Committee plans to have a vote prior to the session and to make maps public. The committee has also scheduled public hearings in each congressional district. Those hearings are set for:
• Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 555, Health Science Education Center, Central Community College, 3134 W. Highway 34 in Grand Island;
• Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m. in Room 1524, Nebraska State Capitol, 1445 K St. in Lincoln; and
• Thursday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine St. in Omaha.
Speaker Mike Hilgers said he plans to hold the Legislature at ease through the week, although some standing committees will conduct hearing on gubernatorial appointments — which are considered administrative and can be completed during the special session. General file debate is expected to begin Friday, Sept. 17, and will continue if needed Saturday, Sept. 18, with an anticipated 8 a.m. start time.
“The next week please reserve, for now, late nights every day of the week, including Friday September 24,” Hilgers instructed lawmakers.
Information on the Redistricting Committee’s work can be found on the Legislature’s website at news.legislature.ne.gov/red.
Sen. Lou Ann Linehan is the committee’s chairperson. Other members include Sens. Carol Blood, Tom Briese, Tom Brewer, Suzanne Geist, Steve Lathrop, John Lowe, Adam Morfeld and Justin Wayne.
