Red Cross Seeking Volunteers at Blood Drives, Area Centers
The American Red Cross needs more Omaha-Council Bluffs area volunteers to help with blood drives and collections at the Dewey Donation Center, 3838 Dewy Ave., and the West Omaha Donation Center, 729 N. 132nd St.
“A group of dedicated volunteers who serve as Blood Donor Ambassadors have a vital role in ensuring the Red Cross can collect lifesaving blood and deliver it to patients in need,” spokesperson Josh Murray said in an email. “Right now, the Red Cross has a critical need for more volunteers to serve in these positions in the Omaha Metro Area.”
Ambassadors greet blood donors as they arrive, help them get checked-in and are available to assist during and after the donation. Ambassadors must be at least 18 years old, healthy and willing to wear a mask. Shifts are typically 4 hours and assigned online. Some training is required.
Murray said the position is a great way for those unable to give blood due to health reasons or other factors to still support the Red Cross’s lifesaving mission.
