Ralston Sports Week in Review
It is homecoming week at Ralston High School — which signals a certain point in high school sports.
While football and volleyball are approaching the final stretch for the regular season, other high school sports teams are in their state tournaments.
Any way that you slice it, it’s a fun time for prep sports, so let’s get into this week’s results and upcoming contests.
Boys Tennis
Ralston competed at the Class B Boys State Tennis Tournament Thursday and Friday (Oct. 14 and Oct. 15) at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln.

Cross Country
Ralston’s boys and girls cross country teams took part in the B-1 District meet on Thursday at Platteview Country Club. Final results were not available at press time.

Other teams in Ralston’s district are Elkhorn, Nebraska City, Omaha Skutt Catholic, Platteview and Plattsmouth. Omaha Mercy was included in the girls race.
The state meet is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 22, at the Kearney Country Club. The state race schedule is listed below with approximate start times:
Girls Class D – 12 p.m.
Girls Class C – 12:30 p.m.
Boys Class D – 1 p.m.
Boys Class C – 1:30 p.m.
Class D and C awards – 2 p.m.
Girls Class B – 2:30 p.m.
Girls Class A – 3 p.m.
Boys Class B – 3:30 p.m.
Boys Class A – 4 p.m.
Class B and A awards – 4:30 p.m.
Girls Golf
Ralston/Mercy senior Lilee Surdell-Eichten participated in the Girls Class B State Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 11, and Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Scotts Bluff Country Club.
Surdell-Eichten shot a first-round score of 89 followed by a second-round score of 99 for a total of 188, tying her for a 50th place finish.
Lincoln Southwest took the gold in the team race, shooting a two-round total of 627, 25 shots better than runner-up Lincoln East (652). Millard North finished one stroke back of Lincoln East for third.
Lincoln Pius X junior Nicole Kolbas won individually, shooting eight-under-par for a 136, followed by runner-up Kaitlyn Hanna of Omaha Westside (142) and Lincoln Southwest senior Kate Strickland (144).

Football
Omaha Skutt Catholic defeated Ralston 56-32 on Friday, Oct. 8.
Rams junior quarterback Harrison Acklie completed 7-of-18 passes for 212 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Acklie’s favorite target was senior Caleb O’brien, who had five catches for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Rashad Madden rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries, including a 97-yarder.
The Rams (1-6) hosted Blair Thursday. Check back here next week for updates on Thursday’s game.
Ralston will finish the regular season Friday, Oct. 22, at home against Mount Michael Benedictine.
Softball
Ralston finished the season with a record of 15-14 after being eliminated from the B-2 Subdistrict Tournament by Blair on Oct. 4.
The state tournament began Wednesday in Hastings and concludes today.
Volleyball
Ralston played six times in seven days last week, including the Trailblazer Conference Tournament at Beatrice.
Ralston is now 1-25 on the season.
