Police Arrest Man Accused of Firing Gun at Officers in Omaha
Authorities have arrested a man they accuse of firing a gun from a car he was in at police officers in Omaha.
The incident happened early last Sunday morning, when officers responded to reports of shots fired in a North Omaha neighborhood, police said in a news release.
Gang unit officers began following what police deemed a suspicious car when at least one passenger leaned out of the vehicle and fired on police, officials said. No officers were injured in the gunfire.
A chase ensued, and three men eventually bailed out of the car and took off running while the driver sped away, police said. Officers caught two of the men, but the third and the driver got away, police said.
Police arrested D’Tavionte White-Perry, 19, on suspicion of assault on an officer, use of a gun by a prohibited person and firing a gun from a vehicle. Police also arrested Wuanya Smith, 19, on suspicion of obstructing an officer and criminal mischief.
