Papillion Announces Its Mask Mandate Is Over
The mask mandate in Papillion has expired after the percentage of COVID-19 patients occupying state hospital beds dropped below 20% on a 14-day rolling average.
“COVID-19 safety measures continue to be recommended in our community and the pandemic is not over,” the city said in a statement on social media. “We continue to recommend residents avoid gatherings, wash their hands frequently, social distance from others who are from outside their household, and wear a mask when they are in settings with others from outside their household where social distancing isn’t possible, especially indoors.”
The city notes that many Papillion businesses and organizations still require masks.
The Papillion City Council will consider having a mask mandate reactivate if the state goes back into the “orange” zone – with more than 20% hospital bed occupancy by COVID-19 patients on a 7-day rolling average – and relax again based on its previous standard. A public hearing is set for Jan. 5.
“Stay diligent Papillion, and let’s continue to work together this holiday season to protect our community from COVID-19,” the city said on its Facebook page.
