Omaha Wages Up Average of $1.11 an Hour Over Past Year

The Greater Omaha Chamber highlighted an average $1.11 increase in hourly wages across the metro area in its recent release of monthly economic indicators.

A recent area ranking by GoBankingRates.com found Omaha was No. 19 among cities where paychecks are “getting better,” the chamber reported. Average hourly wages are up about $1.11 since December 2018.

Average private wages were $28.52 an hour in the metro area as of December 2019.

Employment growth has improved in the past year, based on results from December 2019, that shows Omaha’s labor force has increased by 3.3%.

Construction has seen the most job growth, with a 16.8% increase.

Single family construction permits are up 20.2% in the 12-month period from last December.

Eppley Airfield reported a decline in airline passengers of about 1.6% over the past year.
