Omaha Police, Fire To Require Masking
Omaha police and fire officials said last Wednesday that officers and firefighters will now be required to wear masks on the job after a virus outbreak in their departments. Thirty-nine Omaha fire employees and 35 Omaha police employees were off work after testing positive for the coronavirus.
The police department said most of the employees who tested positive were vaccinated and had mild symptoms but several unvaccinated employees who got sick have been hospitalized.
Last Thursday, the Douglas County Health Department reported a record-breaking 1,537 new positive COVID-19 tests received since the previous day.
The total number of positive cases reported since March 2020 is 109,450. The number of COVID-19-related deaths so far in Douglas County is 936.
