Omaha Metro Area Remains Competitive Compared With High-Performing Regions
The Greater Omaha Chamber says the region entered the coronavirus pandemic in a competitive position compared to nine high-performing metro areas.
The chamber’s 2020 Barometer Report says the Omaha region has advantages in entrepreneurship, business costs and quality of life.
“From the start, we have had our eyes on the comeback. The 2020 Barometer reminds us our economic underpinnings are strong, and are part of the reason Omaha is leading the nation in the number of small businesses still open and in operation,” David G. Brown, the chamber’s president and CEO, said in a news release.
The report, an “economic scorecard of the Greater Omaha region,” examines nearly 40 different factors such as private wages per job, labor force participation and cost of living. It compares Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area to the regions around Salt Lake City, Utah; Louisville, Kentucky; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Austin, Texas; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Nashville, Tennessee.
Omaha ranks No. 3 among the metros for entrepreneurship, No. 1 for health care access and ease of travel/commute time, and No. 3 for the cost of doing business.
