NSBA Announces Line of Succession for Presidency
Nebraska State Bar Association installed a new president-elect and president-elect designate at the conclusion of its 2020 Annual Meeting last week.
William J. Mueller is the president-elect. He has attended the annual meeting for more than 40 years and comes from a family of lawyers. His father, the late William P. Mueller, was a lawyer who served as NSBA president in 1983-84; his father-in-law was a lawyer; and his wife, Kim Robak is a lawyer, with whom he founded the Mueller Robak government relations firm.
“I love lawyers,” Mueller said. “I enjoy being with lawyers. Many of my best friends are lawyers. I think what lawyers do is important and I am proud to be a lawyer.”
Mueller was disappointed when it became clear that this year’s meeting was going to have to be virtual because of COVID-19.
“I love the relationships that I have made through the bar association with other lawyers,” Mueller said. “And I think that is what has really suffered the past six-plus months and that’s really important to a profession like the law.”
Mueller, who has lobbied on behalf of the NSBA since 1984, hopes to use his president-elect term to look at how bar association members can get the most out of their membership.
“I’m really going to be focused this year on how I think we can maximize the value that we provide our members,” Mueller said. “We have to really be a resource to young lawyers beginning their legal work and we really have to think about that in this time of COVID, what resources can we provide our members.”
Jason Grams is excited to become more involved in the NSBA as president-elect designate, and he plans to use the upcoming year as an educational opportunity.
“I’m just getting involved,” Grams said. “This year is going to be about learning for me, from Jill Robb Ackerman and Bill Mueller, Liz Neeley, Sam Clinch. It’s going to be about meeting people from all over the state that are involved in the bar association and really familiarizing myself with the way the organization operates.”
Grams, a partner at Lamson, Dugan & Murray, has served as a House of Delegates member since 2013 and is a graduate of the NSBA Leadership Academy. He has also been a member of the Omaha Bar Association Executive Council since 2017.
“It’s a real privilege to represent the state bar association as we move into the future,” Grams said.
