November Election Profiles: Gubernatorial Candidates 2022
On November 8th, Nebraska will be voting for our next governor. In an effort to make sure that voters are informed, The Daily Record has compiled profiles on the three candidates that are currently running.
Jim Pillen - Republican Candidate
Jim Pillen was born in Columbus, Nebraska in 1955. He holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine class of 1983. He was elected to the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska in 2012, becoming Vice-Chairman in 2019 and Chairman in 2020. He owns and runs a multigenerational family-owned business called Pillen Family Farms, and is the managing partner of DNA Genetics. “The family business operates by some basic core beliefs—do what is right, do the best you can, and treat others the way you want to be treated.” Pillen is a former Husker Defensive Back from 1975-78, a two-time winner of the All-Big Eight, and was added to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 2004. He believes each Nebraskan plays an important part to keep our state prosperous, growing, and free, much like any sports team He has been married for over forty years, with four children and seven grandchildren.
Pillen’s key focuses for his election are:
Reduce Government Spending and make sure that more money stays in citizen’s pockets.
Lower Property Taxes and modernize the tax structure of Nebraska.
Increase Infrastructure by expanding broadband access to the more rural parts of the state and improving roads.
Encourage Education by increasing more options for students, whether with trade schools or degrees in colleges in Nebraska, and rejects the teaching of critical race theory in schools.

Carol Blood - Democratic Candidate
Senator Carol Blood is the representative of district 3. Born in 1961 in McCook, she has spent her entire life in Nebraska. She has been married for over thirty years, with three children and ten grandchildren. Blood has been in some position in politics for nearly fifteen years. She was first elected to the Bellevue City Council in 2008, before being elected as a Senator in 2012, which she has continued to this day. She has proposed many bills, including LB691 to include kidnap victims under the Address Confidentiality Act. The Senator is passionate about Nebraska, and on her Facebook she has been running what she calls her Summer Series, focusing on different landmarks across the state from the Nebraska National Guard Museum to the Carhenge display in Alliance, NE.
Blood’s key focuses for her election are:
Prosperity for All Nebraskans with the intent of increasing the state’s economy.
Maintain Public Safety/Improve Public Health by focusing on increasing the number of health professionals and hospitals in the state.
Invest in Infrastructure by properly maintaining bridges and roads, as well as expanding utilities and broadband internet to the more rural areas of the state.
Encourage Education by reduce property tax reliance for schools, give students more options outside of four-year degrees, and address student loan debt.
If elected, Carol Blood would be the second female governor of Nebraska.

Scott Zimmerman - Libertarian Candidate
Scott Zimmerman is a sixth generation Nebraskan. He has a Masters in Education, with a focus on Elementary Education, from Grand Canyon University, and is a University of Nebraska-Omaha graduate of the class of 1994. He has been the Executive Director of Marketing and Development for the Roads to Freedom Foundation, a foundation built on the Libertarian view of limiting government control in the everyday life of citizens by educating Americans, for the past four years.
Zimmerman’s key focuses for his election are:
Reduce Dependency on Tax Revenue and replace the state’s income and property tax with a voluntary tax system.
Nebraska Citizens Retain the Right to Own Firearms.
Minimize Government Interactions with Small Businesses.
Relieve Pressure of Overpopulated Prison Systems by evaluating punishments on non-violent and victimless crimes, and improvising rehabilitation and assimilation into society.
