Nominations Sought for County, District Court Benches in 11th District
Applicants are being sought for two spots on the bench in southwestern Nebraska.
Applications are due this week for the county and district courts serving the 11th Judicial District, which spans Arthur, Chase, Dawson, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Gosper, Hayes, Hitchcock, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow and Thomas counties.
The primary place of office for the county court is North Platte, while the primary place of office for the district court is McCook.
Applicants for the district court must apply by 4 p.m. Tuesday. Applicants for the county court must apply by 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The district court vacancy is due to the resignation of Judge David W. Urbom. The county court vacancy is due to the resignation of Judge Kent Turnbull. Both judges stepped down Aug. 31.
A public hearing for the district court vacancy will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the District Court Courtroom, Third Floor, Red Willow County Courthouse, 502 Norris Ave. in McCook. A public hearing for the county court vacancy will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 27 in Courtroom No. 2 of the Lincoln County Courthouse, 301 N. Jeffers St. in North Platte.
Written testimony for both vacancies is due by Oct. 22 by mail to Justice Jeffrey Funke, Nebraska Supreme Court, PO Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509 or by email to dawn.mussmann@nebraska.gov.
